Abba's Will:

A Brief Essay

Abba's Will: How Can You Know?
©2005 Mark Pitrone and Fulfilling Torah Ministries

Abba's will is different for each of us - and it is the same for each of us. If we are believers, we will want to know and do his will for us, for there is nothing that can make us happier or more complete. And the puny garbage that we decide to NOT enjoy on this earth will be replaced by humongous rewards in eternity. We may think that doing our thing in our way will make us happy, but if you want to see the end of that road, you need go no further than the Book of Ecclesiastes. Everything ol' Shlomo tried to use to find happiness ended up being useless, or what he termed 'vanity'. How do we know what the will of YHWH is for us?

John 3:1-8 (KJV) "There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: [2] The same came to Yahshua by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from Eloha: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except Eloha be with him. [3] Yahshua answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of Eloha. [4] Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? [5] Yahshua answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of Eloha. [6] That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. [7] Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. [8] The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit." Wind = Spirit - same greek word. Noone knows where Abba is going to lead him from this minute to that. Sometimes it will look to the world that you are aimless (that's the Greek mindset of the West), but you maybe being led of the Spirit (THAT'S the Hebrew/biblical mindset) and he may want you to change directions on a dime. It isn't my business to TELL you where YHWH wants you to go, mainly because I have a hard enough time finding out for myself.

Proverbs 22:6 (KJV) "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." It is the job of us Fathers (mothers as well, since they are a part of their husband) to watch our children to see where their natural interests and bents lie and to help them develop them, because those interests are from YHWH. We are often tempted to try to mold our children after our likeness - to make them little "us's". But that is not our command from our Father in heaven. I hope I've done this with my children. Encourage their righteous interests and desires, and they will turn out OK. Maybe they'll actually enjoy their life's vocation if we encourage their Avocation early. I can't think of anything better for a man than to make his favorite hobby into his gainful employment, even if his favorite hobby is digging ditches or cleaning septic tanks. To be happy in one's life's work is to be a very special man.

Psalm 40:6-8 (KJV) "Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required. [7] Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the scroll it is written of me, [8] I delight to do thy will, O my Eloha: yea, thy Torah is within my heart." Hebrews quoted vv.6-7 to make reference to Yahshua's offering. The point I'm trying to make here, though, is that Yahshua is the object of the entire 40th Psalm, and that includes v.8. Abba's will is likened to his Torah. Doing his will is obeying his voice, which is Yahshua haMoshiach. Yahshua said, John 14:15 (KJV) "If ye love me, keep my commandments." We read in James 4:12 (KJV) "There is one lawgiver, who is able to save…" Take a guess who gave Torah to Moshe on Mount Sinai in Arabia? So these were whose commandments? If you guessed Yahshua, you're right. About Yahshua we read in 1 John 2:3-6 (KJV) "And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. [4] He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. [5] But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of Eloha perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. [6] He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked." We ought to do as Yahshua did, not try to figure out what he would do. And what did he do? John 15:10 (KJV) "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love." Yahshua kept Torah. So should we.

Romans 8:1-5 (KJV) "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Moshiach Yahshua, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [2] For the Torah of the Spirit of life in Moshiach Yahshua hath made me free from the law of sin and death. [3] For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, Eloha sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: [4] That the righteousness of Torah might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [5] For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit." To know the will of Eloha in your life is really simple, it just ain't easy to do. Simply do the Word, obey his commandments, and you are doing his general will. Now, if you are truly after his heart and in his Spirit (following his lead in keeping his commandments), the desires of your heart will be his desires and the specific will of Eloha for you, and they will not contradict his Word. If you are not obeying his commandments, all your efforts in prayer and weeping to find his specific will for your life is useless. Seek his face, keep his commandments because he loves you and you love him, and his will shall become your will.

Read his Word. Study it to show yourself approved. As you study, he'll open his Word to your mind and heart and that will prove that he approves of you. As you be come more like Yahshua by your immersion in his Word, you will see that your heart is changing to be like his. Sin will become more abominable to you. Obedience will become more natural to you. His Torah will be written on your heart, and you will be more naturally attracted to what HE wants and less to what YOU (In your flesh) want.

Summary: Following YHWH's will may look aimless, it could change in a moment; we all have natural bents; we need to follow Torah to do his will; We learn to follow Torah by doing as Yahshua did and studying his Word.
